Why Singapore is the Most Underrated Family Holiday

When I talk to families about Singapore, I often hear: "Oh, we'll just stop there for a couple of nights on the way somewhere else."

But for us, Singapore was so much more than a quick stopover. It was our very first overseas family holiday. We didn't just spend a few days there - we stayed for ten nights. And looking back, I'm so glad we did.

It Made Travel Feel Easy

I'll be honest - I was nervous about our first overseas trip with the kids. Would it be too overwhelming? Would we spend the whole time stressed?

Singapore made everything feel manageable. The airport was straightforward, the transport system was clean and simple, and most people spoke English which took away so much of that "what if something goes wrong" anxiety. I didn't have to worry about the kids getting travel belly either. We never once felt out of our depth.

The Kids Were in Awe

Some of my favourite travel memories came from those ten days. And it wasn't just our little family of four - my sister and her family, my mum and stepdad, and my Aunty all joined us. It turned into the most incredible multi-generational trip.

Watching the kids bond at Gardens by the Bay, their faces lighting up as the Supertrees came alive at night - we visited just before Christmas so there was even artificial snow falling. Hearing their laughter at the water play areas. Spotting animals at the zoo they had never even imagined existed. Singapore gave them that sense of wonder that makes travel so magical for children.

Food Was Fantastic and Affordable

We ate our way through hawker centres trying satay, noodles, dumplings, and the famous chicken rice. Authentic food experiences without blowing the budget. And when the kids weren't feeling adventurous, familiar options were always nearby - I'll confess they needed Subway a couple of times.

It took the stress out of mealtimes completely, which anyone who has travelled with young children will understand.

The Perfect First Step Into Overseas Travel

Singapore worked so well as our first family holiday abroad because it was safe, clean, organised, and welcoming. It gave us a gentle introduction to travelling with kids while still delivering those big wow moments.

And the flight from Perth is only five hours direct. Close enough to feel manageable, far enough to feel like a real adventure.
