How far in advance should I start planning a family holiday?

Accepted Answer

For bucket list destinations like Japan, Europe, or the Maldives, I recommend starting 9-12 months ahead. This gives us time to secure the best accommodation options, lock in any special experiences or hard-to-get tickets, and take advantage of early booking offers.
For simpler trips or closer destinations, 3-6 months is usually sufficient.
That said, I've planned amazing trips with much shorter notice when needed - although in some cases there may be less availability and options to select from.

Can you help with multi-generational trips (grandparents, parents, kids)?

Yes! Multi-generational travel is one of my favourite types of trips to plan. I love the challenge of finding destinations and experiences that work across different ages, energy levels, and interests.
I'll work with you to find accommodation that gives everyone their own space but keeps the family together - whether that's connecting rooms, family suites, or villas. We'll build in activities that appeal to different age groups, plus plenty of flexibility so grandparents can rest while parents take the kids out, or vice versa.
The key is always communication upfront about everyone's needs, pace, mobility and must-dos. Once I understand the family dynamic, we can create something that works beautifully for everyone.

Do you work with families outside of Perth?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! While I'm based in the Swan Valley, Perth, I work with families all over Australia and internationally. I've helped families in NSW, VIC, QLD, Hong Kong, USA and Germany plan their bucket list adventures.
Most of our planning happens via email, phone, and video calls - Zoom is fantastic for that face-to-face connection even when we're in different cities or countries.
As long as we can jump on a quick video call for our initial chat and stay in touch via email, location doesn't matter.

What if my children are very different ages - will that be a problem?

Not at all - this is really common with family travel! I work with families all the time where there's a big age gap between children - maybe one is 5 and another is 15, or you're travelling with both toddlers and teenagers.
Part of my job is finding destinations, accommodation, and activities that keep everyone happy - or at least content enough that the holiday works for the whole family. Sometimes that means choosing a resort with kids' clubs and teen programs. Other times it's about building in downtime and flexibility so everyone isn't exhausted.
It can get tricky when older children start being classed as adults for accommodation purposes and we hit room occupancy restrictions. In those cases, we might need to look at interconnecting rooms, family suites, or even a whole house or villa as an alternative.
I'll ask about each child's ages during our initial chat, and we'll work out accommodation and activities that balance everyone's needs.

I work with families across different budget levels - from those wanting a comfortable, well-planned trip to families looking for luxury experiences.
During our initial chat, I'll ask what kind of budget feels comfortable for your family. This helps me recommend destinations and accommodation that match your expectations - there's no point showing you $800/night resorts if you're thinking more like $300/night.
I'm upfront about costs and always aim to get the best value for your budget. That might mean finding a great family-friendly hotel that's slightly out of the main tourist area, suggesting shoulder season travel to save money, or mixing some splurge experiences with more budget-conscious choices.
What matters most is that your trip works for your family - both the experience and the cost.
